Lupe’s former Producer/Friend took to Twitter to express his disappointment in Lupe’s music and career moves. Apparently Prolyfic was there in the beginning of Lupe’s career and saw it all as it unfolded. He offered his full opinion on why his #LASERS album isn’t being released and stands up for the fans of Lupe saying that if he does more they wouldn’t have to petition.
I’m sure some of the die hard Lupe fans might be upset by this but I’m sure Prolyfic has some valid points in this. I remember even feeling some type of way myself after Lupe reneged on that “Friend of the People” mixtape. Then he basically told the fans to get over it. You can check out the rant below and let us know what you think about the situation in the comments.
- RT @TheLupENDBlog #WeWantLasers Petition to Atlantic Records http://bit.ly/9JOyOf < REALLY!?!?!? that’s what we on now @LupeFiasco?
- Some folks might want to turn their head, bcuz I have some choice words for this whole #WeWantLazers “movement” & @LupeFiasco as an artist about 2 hours ago via web
- Ok FIRST off I really like @LupeFiasco as an artist.. I enjoy listenin to his music.. when it’s available to listen to… that being said…
- This nigga @LupeFiasco really be on some scared of failure as shit… He is his own worst enemy… and he’s fucking up ROYALLY
- I mean where do I begin? how does Such a talented individual like @LupeFiasco become such a utter disappointment? And it’s his own doing
- 1st u penalize ur fans for WANTING ur music..u make a short mixtape.. then when ur material gets leaked u throw a temper tantrum @LupeFiasco
- What kind of artist PENALIZES fans for someone leaking they music?!?! you should be happy people WANT your music @LupeFiasco
- In a state where everyone is rising to success by giving away free music (Drake, Wayne, Gucci Etc.) @LupeFiasco chooses to hoard his music
- Which results in what? People forgetting about you! which is why @LupeFiasco did not make ANY lists of ANYTHING! When he should be top 3
- - Ain’t no release date on #WeWantLazers cuz ain’t NO FUCKING HITS on it! cuz @LupeFiasco REFUSES to makes hits.. not that he cant.. he wont!
- it’s like u forgot what got u here in the first damn place! u was set up to be “The One” not a reflection of what ur name means @LupeFiasco
- There is NO reason why u shouldn’t be mentioned in the same conversations as Drake or wayne etc… Ppl say “who?” when u mention @LupeFiasco
- & why do they do that? cuz @LupeFiasco is to damn scared to fail! he lacks the HEART to take a risk! So he’s had a careeer of playin it safe So @LupeFiasco figure he’ll appease this crowd.. u know that crowd over there.. they’ll ALWAYS love him, and he won’t have to feel pressured
- A fan of @LupeFiasco’s says: “if he really got w/some great songwriters, producers, & explored all his options he could make a dope album
- Just in case you think I’m making this up…
- But @LupeFiasco is not gonna do that… he’d rather throw temper tantrums and toss complaints about making “what the industry wants”
- But @LupeFiasco’s fans DO NOT want to hear all that crap man.. all they want is the music.. fuck what you talkin bout dude.. do yo job
- Jim Johnson didn’t want to waste a HIT on @LupeFiasco bcuz he INTENTIONALLY associates himself wit Losin..I mean Lazing..Loser Lazer #Shrugs
- An to be truthfully honest.. If @LupeFiasco every made the “Great American Rap Album” or whatever, it will probably be his best album ever!
- As an old former friend.. I’m disappointed.. as a current fan.. i’m disappointed.. enuff is enuff.. get off the bullshit @LupeFiasco
- - I knew the moment @LupeFiasco let them ppl over at #OKP embrace him.. I knew it was over..his music changed & he placed a ceiling on himself
- - All that Japanese Cartoon shit is cool or whatever but DAWG that’s not what Chilly put you here to do @LupeFiasco And you KNOW that!
- - How you go from being endorsed by Jay-z, to basically no public affiliation whatsoever?!?!? @LupeFiasco You spose to be killin it G
- - Lyrically ain’t nobody touching this nigga @LupeFiasco but who cares? cuz nobody know! cuz he only caters to a select SMALL crowd of ppl
- - @LupeFiasco’s Fans wouldn’t have to DEMAND a release on #Wewantlazers if he made the folks at the label WANT to put the machine behind it
- - It’s all politics & bullshit… NO.. The folks at atlantic records do not want to put money behind all that emo weirdo bullshit @LupeFiasco
- - do that shit on ur own time..give the FANS some fuckin music to listen to.. put out some mixtapes..BE ACTIVE & u’ll be on a list @LupeFiasco
- - Mixtape #Weezy Meant something.. Mixtape @LupeFiasco Meant something..so why is Weezy UP HERE, and lupe down there? Lack of supply to demand
- - Alot of people lives, situations, & freedom went into the development of @LupeFiasco it’s a damn shame to watch what he’s doing with it
- - I mean canceling a mixtape bcuz some one leaked your music has GOT to be 1 of the dumbest reasons to deprive fans of something @LupeFiasco
- - Why put yourself in position to have fans..that support u.. if u gonna treat them like shit? it’s not THEY fault ur music leaked @LupeFiasco
- - Everytime I have a conversation about @LupeFiasco it always go exactly the SAME “man dude is so good, wtf is wrong with him? why ain’t he..”
- - At the end of the day dude.. PUT OUT SOME MUSIC.. keep ur BUZZ up.. appease the fans AND THE LABELS or ur gonna get dropped @LupeFiasco b
- You ain’t making no #Hits You go to #neptunes to PURPOSELY get throw away beats.. You ain’t putting no music out.. wtf you doin? @LupeFiasco
- They gon start lookin at you like you dead weight @LupeFiasco then what? YOU HAVE TO DELIVER homie!! it’s just that simple
- Cuz right now @LupeFiasco looking like a Loser.. I mean Lazer.. I mean Loser.. I mean #Wewantlazers O_o
- How does a person that’s bred to be a winner.. become a #Lazer? @LupeFiasco this ain’t you dude..fuck them clothes fuck that rebellion shit
- When @LupeFiasco 1st started buzzin at the labels ppl was comparin #FNF to like the new BadBoy or Rocafella.. Would u be able to tell today?
- Does @LupeFiasco’s music/Brand/Marketing/Promotion/or #Wewantlazers “Movement” come anywhere close to resembling those powerhouses?
- There’s no reason why it shouldn’t tho… He has the talent.. he HAD the funding.. he had the labels.. and he HAD the cosign @LupeFiasco
- - He also HAD the music..once upon a time..this new shit.. I can’t listen to it.. it’s not for the masses..I dont know who its for @LupeFiasco
- - Why do I care so much? Bcuz I know exactly what went into building @LupeFiasco to be where he is today.. & beyond all that.. I’m still a fan
- And to sit here and watch all this unfold.. personal bias of Wasalu aside.. is just a damn catastrophe.. it’s ironically a @LupeFiasco
- But it seem like the more ppl that sit by the camp fire waitin for @LupeFiasco to do, the less he does & more appalled he seems at the idea
- So the real question is: Why the fuck you here then? @LupeFiasco Just go away if you don’t want the pressures of pleasing ppl.. 32 minutes ago via web
- - And if u gon be here.. BE HERE!! get off the high school reject Wasalu shit and get back on the writing for the black album @LupeFiasco shit
- Call up GBall get in the attic and finish that mixtape.. put that shit out.. call up P and tell him u want a hit record @LupeFiasco
- Call up Soundtrakk.. get in the lab & GO SEE HIM.. that nigga got some cold ass beats waiting for you but you never hear them @LupeFiasco
- Call up Mr. Jones and tell him you BACK on yo Westside of chicago “Failure” shit & let to Craig Calman Know @LupeFiasco
- Get ya fucking thumb out ya ass and be the Artist we all stood behind you KNOWING you could be @LupeFiasco
- And once it finally sink in to you & you get back where u SHOULD be.. I want you to apologize to your fans for making them wait @LupeFiasco
- Blood, Sweat, And Tears went in to you @LupeFiasco the least you could do is play the part you was selected to play.
- I think I’ll set down off my #SoapBox now..Know that my intentions 2 @LupeFiasco were not fueled by malice but of disappointment & confusion

Damn I ain’t even mad at this, I sense the sincerity. I hope lupe finds fuel in these words
July 23, 2010 at 7:01 pm
hopefully Wasalu can put his ego to the side and take the key points from this and deliver. There’s truth in here whether he want’s to acknowledge it or not.
July 23, 2010 at 7:54 pm
TL;DR
July 23, 2010 at 9:08 pm
Lu may not be able to outrun the rain…but he will weather the storm. He made some valid points but not 2 be put on blast. i guess everyone has the day where they got to take some good criticsm. often it helps me to accomplish some of my greatest acheivements. People must give him credit for what he has done. I see the glass half full as opossed to half empty although I would love to hear the album and from what has leaked sounds like he has got some real stuff that he wants to expose but yet there are very few ears who would even comprehend. sorry i hope this does fuel his music!
July 24, 2010 at 6:41 pm
This guy sounds so bitter, it’s scary. He sound like a hanger-on ass nigga that’s mad he didn’t get put on because his music sucks.
Also, how are you going to shit on Okayplayer and you fucking post on Okayplayer? What a losers. #WEWANTLASERS
July 24, 2010 at 11:54 pm
his music sucks? he produced some of the best songs on food and liquor bra bra. gtfo.
July 24, 2010 at 7:50 pm
#welldamn
*hoping this angered Lupe enough for us to get music….but he is probs doing a #kanyeshrug*…….whomp whomp whoommppp
July 24, 2010 at 9:09 pm
I love Lupe but I agree with this. He be bullshitting man and it’s irritating to see people like Soulja boy and Wacka Flocka get more credit than him when he is better than everybody lyrically. I know he probably doesn’t want to make songs about nothing but the world we live in doesn’t care if there is a meaning behind the music, they just want content. So rap over everyone else’s beats on some mix-tapes and save the content for your album. To me that’s a win win for everyone.
July 24, 2010 at 9:25 pm
I’ve been a fan of Lupe since the very beginning and I endorse this message whole-heartedly. Lupe Fiasco was the best thing to happen to hiphop inso long. I believed he was going to change things. but all he seems to have done is spurned a few hipster clones and perfercted the art of being embracing mediocrity. How can B.O.B be outshining Lu on verses? It just shouldn’t be. Wheres the Fiasco from the Rayne song? He needs more people to put him on blast.
July 25, 2010 at 3:53 am
implying hits=quality music
implying an artist would purposely strive to NOT make hits
implying he “could” make a dope album when he’s already made two great ones
implying the two leaks off the album, “Shining Down” and “I’m Beamin’” are somehow great departures from his earlier work
implying this is constructive criticism and not laughable bitterness
Dude has a point about Lupe’s musical output, but it’s an argument that has been countless times before, and with much less anger and resentment between the lines.
July 25, 2010 at 11:40 am
Lupe > Your Favorite Rapper.
With that said tho i feel several of these points.
Although I do like the fact that Lu doesn’t FLOOD the Streets ala Wanye and Gucci but i would like more. But I thinks it’s wrong for someone to demand u give something free which u worked hard on.
Lupe is one of my top alongside Joe Budden who also falls under the same emo-WTF is he doin-when u gonna drop something mystique.
July 25, 2010 at 1:55 pm
Drop a mixtape, then a single, then a video, then a mixtape, then a single, then a video, then an album.
If you don’t sell 200k in the first week come see me and I’ll smack you for making a horrible album
July 25, 2010 at 7:07 pm
Okay look, look, look… the problem with all these “emo WTF r u doing” artists like Lupe and Joe Budden is…well…us (but mostly ya’ll lol). We need to step up our game as listeners. Lupe is evolving into more than just a musician. At this point, i learn more from Lupe’s music about the world that we live in than most news outlets. This cat has done more for hip hop lyricism than anyone in the last decade and this whole game has followed suit. He is and always has been changing the game, and his mission is so much bigger than making a hit record that will be forgotten in a year anyway. Lupe might not be on some MTV list, but he will be remembered long after he’s done rapping as someone who was ahead of his time. If u wanna talk about pressure, going against the grain takes a lot of balls and thats wat hes trying to do. These are urgent times and i commend him for being unwilling to “settle on mediocrity” (or whatever dude said) by just tryin to make some bangers and call it a day. Its bigger than that homie.
July 26, 2010 at 2:24 pm
I agree with Prolyfic completely. Remember this dude came up with Fiasco and gave him some amazing beats. I thought Food and Liquor was incredible, stunning for a debut album. The follow up was excellent too. Then Lupe went a while without releasing anything new, then he got snubbed on that MTV list. Then for some reason Lupe gets pissed and records a pretty good mixtape in spite. But somehow he doesnt seem to realize that you gotta keep making music to be in the fans’ minds, no matter how good you are. I actually don’t like some of Lupe’s recent verses which makes me wonder the same thing prolyfic is. Is Atlantic holding on to the album because it sucks? I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt though and just assume this is all a big publicity stunt and he’ll release a new single soon … but honestly i just dont know with lupe anymore
July 26, 2010 at 2:36 pm
Sounds like Lupe’s biggest battle is with Lupe…
July 26, 2010 at 2:37 pm
I like where Lu’s music is, but I hate the way he releases it and I been a fan since Fahrenheit 115.
I don’t think being positive with his music should be frowned upon, because Hip Hop doesn’t need another Drake or Wayne. We need a positive and skilled MC to balance this shit.
and Lu is def the best MC to fit that criteria. He just needs to release music.
July 26, 2010 at 2:59 pm
About time someone said the obvious. Homey needs to actually go in the booth often and early. Fuck dreaming of robots and lazers and skateboards and Dr.Romanelli Jackets. How about dreaming up some 16s to put out there for the people just to give em the warm up before droppin an album. Hang with people that will challenge him to go harder. Shit you have Curren$y and Khalifa all over the damn place but no Lupe? C’mon now that ain’t right, and no, I’m not even a fan, just feel dude should be a little like Avis and try harder.
July 26, 2010 at 3:28 pm
Man lupe has always been dope but i dont kno he becomin sloppy wit his shyt like lupe’s music has inspiration behind thats why i fuck wit his music. c’mon dog put some shyt on them bars that us die hard fans want.
July 26, 2010 at 4:29 pm
As an enormous Lupe fan, I don’t feel slighted by this at all. Matter of fact, Prolyfic seems to have hit the nail on the head here.
I don’t usually say this, but one word sums up this rant: church
July 26, 2010 at 4:39 pm

The story only gets better check out NahRight’s Twitter.
July 26, 2010 at 6:57 pm
hopefully he just put a chip on lupe’s shoulder and we get some good music out of this
July 26, 2010 at 7:22 pm
the sad thing is, this rant is completely true! lupe deserves to be ranked with drake, j.cole, wale, kid cudi, etc BUT BARELY ANYONE REMEMBERS HIM. He’s not trying to be memorable and by rebelling against the industry he’s bringing himself down too
July 26, 2010 at 7:47 pm
who the hell would compare Curren$y and Khalifa to Lupe??? GTFOOH
July 26, 2010 at 7:59 pm
Dude went off. I aint mad at him he kept it real. Maybe Ill actually hear another lupe song I can say is my ish!! Good job for being all over this story, you stay on it :)
July 26, 2010 at 10:48 pm
Lupe Fiasco. I have every FnF mixtape. I tuned in every week for FnF radio. I was on the blogs on your old website when you actually commented.
please for god’s sake put out some music.
It really pisses me off that people are forgetting about you… and then I feel the need to defend your ass.
Lyrically you are the best rapper in my opinion and it is really starting to piss me off that you aren’t putting out any music. It is almost to the point where I want to just be like F**** Lupe Fiasco out of anger because you won’t produce. I will pay for your shit homey! I have both versions of Food and Liquor. I read all your articles on those sites. I followed your hypebeast blog, i’ve watched almost every youtube interview you’ve done.
*Sigh*
Please put out some music, that is all I want.
July 27, 2010 at 1:56 am
FNF radio was nice
July 27, 2010 at 5:55 pm
Okay, i was slightly mad at first, but now im starting to understand. At least i think its starting to make sense. As most of you might now know, or might now the music industry is completely controlled. Its controlled by the same people controlling America and the Politics. Why? cause music has the most INFLUENCE in today’s youth, and grown. That being said, every rapper, musical artist is under this grasp. Lupe being one of them, but Lupe was different, although he was famous he did not rap the average “drugs, money, violence, bitches” lyrics and has lyricism of an underground rapper. This can mean, they are trying to change his music even more in a way he doesnt want his music out, or he is trying to get out of this system, which is pretty much impossible. Damn Lupe was my boy too
July 29, 2010 at 1:11 am
I would rather Lupe keeps making music that he likes and not sell out to be in the same conversation as Wayne or Gucci.
July 30, 2010 at 8:44 pm
do i like how he did this nope…but do i somewhat agree…yea ….the cool is an utter classic….i mean frm start to finish…i was a fan cuz i gotcha off food and liquor was my jam…i went to the store and was like eh ok its ten bucks ill buy it…and i havent found a better value for that ten dollars since…and this in goin on two years….that being said…that im beamin shit is not wassup…..evolution is cool..i love it….but there is such a thing as to much to soon…..u need to give ppl time to react digest and adjust to u music…..i want lupe to come out but not like that…and old boy is right…stop whining man…if he wants that shit to come out do it some other way but dnt penalize us as fans…idk its tough cuz i dnt mention him in the gucci wayne talk but hes being a baby to a point….doin a hit dnt mean selling out at all….but hopefully he drops a good album…cuz if its all like im beamin….idk man
